Well ... Can You Even Believe What You Hear in the Salon!  (Women Only Please!)

I had my nails done today!  An ordinary, every two week experience for me.  Usually I zone out, relax - it's about the only time I sit still for an hour and a half - and usually I even doze off!

Today?

Today! ... was different!  Maybe the energy was different or maybe I just finally paid attention to the surrounding conversation!

OMG!

I cannot believe the topics that were open for discussion.

One lady's tipsy alcoholic father who stayed with her for several day and wrecked havoc with her whole family ... not to mentions the bedroom rug when he didn't make it to the bathroom.  Yep!  I heard the whole story!

Another younger gal (twenty something) that was relaying her escapades with her new boyfriend and the recent weekend they stayed together.

Another gal who's son was picked up for a DUI and resisting arrest.  He got probation and a fine!

Another patron whose ex son-in-law just got back into town from 5 months in prison for failure to pay child support!

All this in only 90 minutes ... my head was spinning!

This experience made me think!

Are we always exhibiting the most professional façade we can when we are with customers?  I'd like to think that I am ... on the other hand; maybe we all need to take a little lesson from the "Beauty Shop Quartet" and think who may be listening what we have to say when we open our mouths to speak!

Hi Lisa, I have never understood why women tell all when in a salon! LOL

It is funny what you will hear if you listen instead of speaking.  People tell it all.

I am aghast at what I hear around me in salons.  I actually left a former hairdresser because SHE couldn't talk about anything but the four properties she and her husband were going into foreclosure on...and it was someone else's fault.  I just couldn't listen to it any longer!

I'm a voyeur.  I don't care.  I love hearing the dirt on people.  I don't have time for TV...so...I look for entertainment around me.  LOL

I have the following words typed on a piece of paper and attached to my wall calendar: "There's a reason we have 2 ears and 1 mouth."  - I read this every morning so I don't forget.

Wow -- people are amazing.  I would think some things are not for publication.  However, the salon has been the place for stories to be shared, true or nor, and for rumors to be born.

This is really funny...I got my nails done today too and I try to talk about silly TV shows, or other things...not my personal life and very rarely my work. It's my chance to unwind and chat about husbands and kids...I left one salon last year when the gal who used to cut my hair told me all about their financial problems constantly. It was really depressing and I felt like I was paying to relax and have a good time, not provide free counseling.

Shirley - especially when some of us really don't want to hear it!

Russ - Amen, and then some!

Eric - Yep!  I have collected many customers out of that place!

Susan - I'm lucky, my hairdresser is a real gem!  A friend first and my hair dresser second!

Karen - I gotta confess ... even if I don't like it, I usually listen!  And, after all, why dd so many men comment?
