Lisa and Jim's Northern Nevada Real Estate Blog: Just a little word of advice on blogging . . .

Just a little word of advice on blogging . . .

Thanks Tish ... great points and very interesting read.  You are so right ... stick to what we know ... everyone is passionate about something that gets their juices flowing.  That's the stuff of good content!

Great Job!

Just a little word of advice on blogging . . .

Image of blog buttonI'm still a relative newbie to blogging and it took me a while to find my "voice".  But I've got a couple of success stories that are a direct result of my efforts and I thought I'd share some tips with anyone who is thinking, "What do I blog about?".

Write what you know.  Be it short sales, bank-owned, traditional sales, or even a particular neighborhood -- tell it like it is in YOUR market and you can't go wrong.  Consumers can smell ineptness and they'll call you out on it faster than you can say, "Oops!".

Speak in your own voice.  Don't try to sound like someone else.  You may get the call, but you probably won't close the sale when they find out you aren't who they thought you were.

Add a little levity.  Let people know your sense of humor is alive and well.  Give them a chance to see you having fun, life can be pretty daunting -- it's those who can, and do, laugh who make the ride fun.

Blog about your community.  Have a passion for animals?  Blog about local shelters or fundraisers.  Do you make a difference in your community with local charities?  Blog about them.  Let others know how they can help.  Write about community events and local hot spots.  Imagine that you are new to the area and write about what YOU would want to know.  I've had more calls from my localism posts than any other.  And 5 Clients who are a direct result of those posts.

Be sure to add a picture or video.  Your readers will appreciate the visual as much as the written.

Most importantly?  Just BLOG!  Even a stream of consciousness post can let people see the real you and know you are someone they'd like to work with.  It can be scary the first few times.  But if you're committed to increasing your business it's the best way I know to do it.
