Northern Nevada Real Estate Agents ... Great Talkers Or Great Listeners?

People often think real estate Agents have to be great talkers. In reality, the opposite is true ... most Northern Nevada Real Estate agents are Great Listeners. To best serve you they must be good listeners. If they don't know what you want how can they get it for you?   The time invested at the beginning of your real estate relationship is the foundation for a good transaction.

When you first meet with your Agent he should be very inquisitive, asking you many questions.   If truly interested in your situation his words will flow easily. Not the gift of gab, but interaction germane to your wants and needs. Without knowing many things about you, your situation, your dreams and comforts there is no way he can serve you professionally. The questions should flow from one to the next as the Agent develops an understanding of what you want to accomplish and works with you to determine the best way to get it done.

Many Agents are afraid to ask questions fearing the answer. Most of the time it is because they are inexperienced in the topic and might not have the answer to the questions you are asking. Other times it may be a fear of diminished current motivation.   You might not be ready to act, but are acquiring information so you can determine when to act. Buyers may not be thinking of buying today, but are closer to buying after getting the information they came in to get. A little conversation, a plan, and they can determine when they will buy, whether today, or in two years. It is always what is best for the client that counts.

If the Agent doesn't know what you are thinking you can both waste a lot of time. We recently saved a potential Buyer a trip to our area. Calling from Las Vegas the Buyer was looking at a certain price point in which to make a cash offer. After continued dialogue we learned that they were actually planning on offering and buying at half the listed price. That was their experience and expectation based on the Las Vegas market. We explained how that doesn't work here and they have not traveled to date.

The professional agent will hear what you aren't saying. Not that you are holding anything back, they can just tell when other things are going on.   As you plan with your Agent you should start to get comfortable. If not, then consider whether it is because you are hearing something that you don't want to hear, or just aren't being heard. Don't let an Agent push you somewhere you don't want, or have, to go to.   If you find things going that way step back and regroup. Identify what is making you uncomfortable and fix it - even if it means removing the Agent that isn't listening. You can't force a square peg through a round hole and your Agent must understand your shape and travel path.

Our Advice: Real estate conversation isn't always about Dollars and Cents, rather is always about Dollars and Sense. What makes sense to you is most important and can only be achieved by an Agent that is listening, inquisitive, knowledgeable, flexible, and caring, a true professional. We are fortunate in Northern Nevada to have a very high standard of practice in the real estate profession with many fine professionals available to properly serve the public. Find one and achieve your objective in the best way suited for you.

Keep conversing when with your Agent. You never know when the interaction will uncover a key piece of the puzzle you are both working on. Those ah hahs lead to ha has and happiness.

When it comes to choosing professionals to assist you with your real estate needs... Experience is Priceless!
